Scapular of Our Lady of Carmel

 

"You and all Carmelites will have the privilege, who dies with it will not undergo  the eternal fire”; it means, who dies with it, will be saved.


WHAT IT IS SCAPULAR?
The Scapular of Carmel is the external sign of Marian devotion, that consists in the consecration to Blessed virgin Mary by the inscription in the Carmelite Order, in the hope of her maternal protection.

The external distinction of this inscription or consecration is the little brown Scapular.

MEANING OF THE SCAPULAR
In wearing the Scapular, for a lifetime, it is important we know how to appreciate its deep and rich meaning, as the belonging to an Order, of the Carmel, with the commitment to live according to its rich spirituality and its own charism.  Who wears the Scapular must attempt to have always present to Blessed Virgin and try to copy her virtues, her life and act like Her. And Mary, acted starting from her words: «Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word».

THE SCAPULAR, MARIAN SIGN
The Scapular deepen its roots in the long history of the Order, where it represents the commitment to follow Jesus like Mary did, she is the perfect model for all Jesus’ disciples.  This commitment has its logic origin in the baptism that transform us in sons of God.

VIRGIN MARY TEACHES US:

  • •    To live open to God and His will, manifested in the events of life.
  • •    To listen the voice (Word) of God in the Bible and in life, obeying and practicing the requests of this voice.
  • •    To faithfully pray feeling the presence of God in all the events.
  • •    To live closer to our brothers and practice solidarity with them and their needs.


SYNTHESIS AND  CONCRETION OF THE MEANING OF THE SCAPULAR OF CARMEL

IS NOT...
    An object for magic protection (amulet)
    An automatic deliverance warranty.
    A dispensation for not living the demands of christian life.

IT IS...
    A sign approved by church lot of centuries ago.
    A sign that represents the commitment to follow Jesus like Mary did:

  • •    Opened to God and His will.
  • •    Guided by faith, hope and love.
  • •    Closer to needs of others.
  • •    Praying constantly and discovering God who is present in all events.

A sign that feed the hope of the encounter with God in eternal life under protection and intercession of Mary.
